Which meals are included in a tour?
Most meals are provided by Mello Velo. Breakfast is prepared and served by Joe. Lunch is prepared to order and riders can carry it with them. Or if you prefer, you can stop and have lunch in one of the many picture-perfect villages along the way (please note, these purchased meals are not included in the cost of the tour). We enjoy a total of 4 to 5 dinners in our villa and 2 to 3 dinners out at local restaurants, with guests paying for dinners out, depending on the length of the tour. Please contact us with any dietary restrictions.
What are the accomodations like?
We secure large villas or county homes with many bedrooms and common areas to ensure that you have a comfortable, relaxing trip while at the same time enjoying the charm and character of the local region. These luxurious homes have beautiful grounds and outdoor pools.
Can the meals be adjusted for guests with special diet requirements?
Yes. We adjust the dishes/meals for special dietary requirements. Please specify any dietary requirements or food allergies when reserving your trip.
How many people will be on the trip?
All Provence Mello Velo Tours are limited to a maximum of 8 guests plus 2 hosts. Spring-training trips to Mallorca have a maximum of 16 guests because the group stays in an quaint 8 room spa hotel.
Are single supplements available?
All rooms are double occupancy but some have private baths and others have shared baths. Single supplements are dependent on availability.
Does Mello Velo provide bicycles?
Mello Velo does not provide bicycles as part of the tour, however we do have a relationship with a bike rental agency which delivers high quality road and hybrid bicyles directly to the villa. Most airlines now charge up to $350 for round trip transporation of your bike, making rental the preferred option for many people. Please contact Joe if you have any further questions.
How physically fit should I be to do the rides?
Mello Velo’s scheduled tours are for ADVANCED ROAD CYCLISTS or riders who during the season average 100+ miles a week. Our daily mileage will range from 40 to 90 miles and the terrian is hilly with several good climbs. We strongly recommend that you spend several months training for the tour so that you will be comfortable in the European countryside. If you and your friends wish to do a bike tour but fall into the “I like to ride for 1 to 2 hours not 3 to 4 hours” group, then we will gladly mold a perfect tour to your style and wishes. Please see Custom Trips.
What type of clothing do I need to bring?
We will provide you with specific requirements for each trip
Do you cater for non-cyclists?
The Provence trips are suitable for non-cyclists - including spouses who don't ride. Please see the invitation to non-cyclists on the home page and contact Joe for more information.
What gears will I need?
53x 39
12x 25
Is Airfare included?
You need to book your own airfare and refundable tickets are always recommened. All arrivals must occur by 2pm on Day 0 to avoid additional transportation costs. Now I know none of my guests would do this but some people get creative in their airline ticket purchasing to save a few bucks (i.e. Air Mongolia via Uzbekistan) and end up delayed at some distant airport. So remember; 2pm (and please avoid flying Air Mongolia; their grilled yak is tough and chewy).
We are here to help if you have any questions about purchasing plane tickets.
Is travel insurance recommended?
We strongly recommend travel insurance for all our guests due to the unpredictability of air travel and life in general. It is also helpful in giving you extra medical coverage while
in Europe.
Mello Velo will not assume responsibility or liability for any loss or damage of personal effects or for any injury or loss during the duration of the tour or during travel between home and the tour. Therefore, we highly recommend that you obtain baggage, health and/or accident insurance. For more information and to purchase a policy through our preferred vendor, please click on the link:
